Hartenbos – Coastal town – South Africa
Hartenbos is a small coastal town on the South coast of South Africa. It has a massive long white sandy beach. The town is busy getting a revamp and will look amazing in the next three years as the shop / restaurant area is quite old currently.
A lot of people go yearly to Hartenbos for their December holiday. The town gets packed and for an outsider it is absolutely overwhelming. I used to think the people must be crazy. I got to know the town a bit better through my husband and realised it is the perfect spot for families. A safe environment, small town so easy to get everywhere, close to a marvelous beach.
During the ‘out of season’ period it is excellent to visit, the town is quiet and you have the beach almost to yourself. Right next to the beach there is a massive boardwalk, this makes walking next to the beach easy should you not want to go onto the sand for various reasons. Hartenbos is close to Mossel Bay, another beautiful coastal town. Hartenbos is also close to George, Wildernis, Knysna, all beautiful towns in the ocean as well as Knysna forest area. You can go hike, canoo, go to the beach, visit shops, excellent restaurants and coffee shops.
What we enjoy about Hartenbos is staying close to the sea, having a relaxed peaceful time.
I will post a few photos of our visit there this weekend.
I will also be doing posts on Knysna, George, Victoria bay, the Knysna forest, so you can be on the lookout for them.
Hartenbos is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours drive from Cape Town.
If you ever visit, enjoy the beautiful beach, make sure to go for long strolls early in the morning and early evening.
