Jalapenos going cherry red!
Finally! My Jalapenos are going red, so proud of this harvest.
We have harvested our first three red jalapenos and will be making chilli poppers soon, will post a link to the recipe once that happens.
Here is a link to my original jalapeno post. I’ve left the jalapenos and they have started to turn red the one after the other. When it reached full red colour I harvested it. There are about 8 more to follow from our small plant, so impressed with it.
I must say this plant is quite fuss free, it just need lots of water and a good spray against plant lice every once in a while. I only use an organic spray.
To prevent the ‘dent’ in the jalapeno remove the dried flower when it starts to form a jalapeno. If the flower does not fall off by itself it restrains the growth and effects the form of your jalapeno.
Do plant your own food! Not only is it rewarding, but so exciting to see the veggies grow.

They look good. I planted jalapeno seeds in Sept. or Oct. in the desert in souhern California and none of them sprouted. I guess it got too cool. They must be a summer vegetable.

Thanks! It might be as my plant really started to grow well when spring started, as if it just stood still during winter.

Nice image, pretty reds. My favorite pepper – ripe jalapeno – is even better smoked as a chipotle. For some reason most North Americans prefer them green.

Thank you! I have never heard of Chipotle – I read up a bit now and it does look interesting! Will definitely try it if I ever find it. Have never seen it here in South Africa, might be lucky at a Mexican restaurant hopefully.

We plant ours in May in Northern USA. Besides the flavor, we love that it keeps the deer out of our garden. Plant one on the edge and after a single bite we don’t have a deer issue anymore.
